CNDP Press Meeting

Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (CNDP) will have its National Coordination Committee meeting on 20th and 21st as a part of the broader gamut of the ViBGYOR festival.


The CNDP had been brought to being 10 years back through a national convention in Delhi in November 1989 in response to India going openly nuclear two and a half year back with participation from all the corners of the country and also large representation from the sub-continent and the wider world.


The CNDP, in an effort to further sharpen its for a world, a South Asia and India without nuclear weapons and also effectively assist the grassroots struggles against nuclear p0wer projects - uranium mining to power plants, is going to celebrate its Tenth Anniversary from 10-12 Decmeber in Delhi with a public rally on 9th.The meeting here is meant to review the preparedness for that Tenth Anniversary programme and further flesh it out. It'd also specifically talk of onging struggles in Haripur (in West Bengal) and Jaitapur (in Maharahtra) and work out the means and ways to further cement the bonds and effective measures to reinforce these. It will also undertake a review of the Civil Nuclear Liability Cap Bill, anticipated to be placed in the Parliament in current Budget session, and further actions to be taken. The CNDP has already written twice to the Prime Minister of India urging him to go in for a broadbased public consultaions on this issue before taking any definitive action given the serious apprehensions raised and the immense impact that the Bill if enacted would have on our lives.


The meeting would also discuss a number of other related issues. ViBGYOR festival with its focus on an emancipatory discourse, of which peace and also thereby nuclear disarmant, has an evident symbiotic relationship with the CNDP agenda and thereby chosen as the venue with the purpose of mutual engagements and reinforcements.
